Prep & Layout

Confirm pressure has been checked at the equipment.

Lay plastic tarps around the entire pool perimeter to protect new decking and finishes.

Cut all stub-outs flush — return lines, light fittings.

Cut spa jet stubs and install matching-length jet fittings per location (numbered to match plumbing labels).

Cut airline stubs for spa.

Cut bubbler/fountain stubs and install matching covers.

Patch any shrinkage cracks or voids in the gunite (use Quikcrete 5000 or equivalent for larger voids).

Provide homeowner with a physical color sample for sign-off before mixing.

Set up a clean tool/bucket wash-out area off landscaping.

Execute

During Work

Apply plaster in at least two coats: first coat troweled in until tacky, second coat troweled smooth.

Crews start with spike shoes, transition to sponge shoes for final smoothing.

Ensure plaster is taken up to the edge of every fitting cleanly — return lines, lights, drains.

Install or finalize main drain covers (channel drain or two round drains 3 ft apart per VGB code).

Take extra time finishing bar stools, ledges, and seats — they need extra labor for clean lines.

Clean every fitting and tile edge as the final step.

Wrap Up

End of Day & Handoff

Begin filling immediately after final clean. Hand homeowner the hose with a soft cloth wrap on the metal end.

Instruct homeowner: do not stop fill until water reaches middle of tile line; do not use autofill yet.

Take out the skimmer loop (if not already removed).

Confirm umbrella sleeves are in. If needed, roto-hammer additional sleeves before fill.

If pebble finish: discuss startup style with homeowner (pH startup with acid + soda ash, or acid-wash startup).

Walk-through with homeowner. Clean wash-out area.
